SALVATION ARMY
NEW YEAR WAR EMERGENCY FUND. It is stated that the va.'vus cotts throughout the Dominion have heartily welcomed Commissioner. Hodder's request to take a Sunday collection on behalf of the Salvation Army New Year War Emergency Fund. Retrenchments for some time 'have been pliiriried, and tho,oversight of tlio. Army.'at national headquarters' and divisional 'centres' is being carefully overhauled and reduced to tie possible minimum staff. The saving ill salaries, rates, and rent, aud other items of expenditure will amount to a considerable sum for this year, and will. be placed to the. credit of the Emergency War Fund. A goodly portion of the sum appealed for will be required to maintain the excellent network of social institutions for men, women, and children in Great Britain, all of which find tlicir resources fully taxed at present. Camps for troops in England, the Red Cross Brigade now operating at the Front, and tho five motor ambulances which Genoral Booth offered tho Government have to bo maintained. Already the public of this country have shown that they aro fully in sympathy with tho appeal, and contributions will bo gratefully acknowledged by Commissioner Hoddor at National Headquarters, Courtcnay, Place.
