Oaetoma duty collected at the port of Wellington yesterday amounted to £3179 18s. 6d. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S MASKET REPOKT. Tho Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, December 24. (Note.—Quotations, unless otherwise specified, l are average market prices on- spot.) The market for Christmas meat is quiet, but there-is moderate business doing. Tlie demand has been chiefly for home-grown and frozen. Mutton.—The market is dull, but priced are firm. Canterbury mutton, 5Jd. per lb.; North Island, 5Ad. Lamb—Canterbury twos, 6 9-16 d. per lb.: other than Canterbury, 6 3-Bd, Beef.—New Zealand hi-ndouartere, 6 6-16 d. per lb.; forequarters, 53d. There is a targe eupply of chilled meat on the market. Chilled hindquarters, 7 l-Bd. per lb; forequarters, 5 5-Gd. . Butter,.—The market oloscd rather quiet on account of tho holidays. Danish, slow, 150s. to 154 a.; Australian, a small supply, 124e. to 1365.; New Zealand, a good demand, 1365. to 1385.; Siberian, a fair demand, 1265. to 1305.; Argentine, firm, 1245. to 132s . Cheese.—The niai'ket closed rather quiet, with a decreasing demand. Canadian, white and coloured, 78a. to 795.; New Zealand, white and coloured, 765. to Tie.; exceptionally, Tie. Hemp.—Manila: The market is quiet on account of the holidays. There is less demand, but shippers are- firm and there Is no change in prices. The output from' Manila for the-week woe 26,C00 bales. The estimate for the neat two weeks is 45,000 bales. Dealers will probably try to get their liemp baled beforo the' grading law comes Into force on January t New Zeeland: The market is rather more active, eap'oclally for spot hemp. Prices are Drm at last quotations. . The wheat and flonr afloat for the United Kingdom totals 1,985,000 quarters; for the Continent, 1,960,C00 quarters; Atlantic shipments, 655,0C0; Pacific, 30,000. The total shipments to Europe during the week amounted to 767,000 quarters.
