HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. • In the new programme to bo presentoil by the Fuller-Brennan Vaudeville Company at His Majesty's Theatre tonight, an -unusually large number 'of new artists will appear for the first , time in Wellington.! Chief among these .will be tho Corriok entertainers, TfilD will provido the whole of the first part of the programme. Although presented almost entirely by ouo family, the entertainment will be well varied, bright, novel, and refined. Another prominent first appearance will bo that of Clinton and Beatrice, who will provide a sensational sharpehooting act. With revolver or Winchester repeating riflce they pick off email articles hung about tho stage with wonderful facility, concluding ihedr turn hy playing a, tune on bells by means of rifle 6hots. Mr. Carltpn Chase, who ha 6 just concluded a successful season with tho Grafters Company, will appear in hie vocal, speciality act, in which he will be assisted by Mr. Gone Hawkes, a pianist and violin soloist. The Barclays, two dainty < ladies, will appear in songs at and away from the piano. The Dangais, trick oyclists, will present their novel cyclodrome. Other artists to appear will be the Leach Wallin Trio and George Melrose. The programme will be given for six nights' and matinees will be held oa Friday and Saturday. - , •. THE KING'S THEATRE. A big crowd filled the King's Theatre on Saturday* night to witness the final screening or the week's picture programme. A complete change will be introduced to-night, when the main at-, traction will be the Kalem Company's romantic story of . reincarnation,,. entitled "The Mystery of the Sleeping Death." This interesting picture Btory was written to feature ! Miss Alice Joyce, , who has added to her laurels by her artistic work, in the romance. The whole story is impressive and the end delightful. A capital .Keystone comedy also figures on the .bill under the title of "His New Profession.". The well-known comedian, Charles Chaplin, takes the leading part in this piece, and is shown making desperate efforts to avoid work. The Edison' Company is also represented by a comedy, "Summer Resort Idyll," which leads to a laughable climax. Of: particular interest will be the topical film "French Battleships," depioting the operations of the Fleet, as in battle. Other supporting items are to include:. "Little Mischief" (Thanhousor), and "Price of a Lie".(A.K.). ' ■>. '
' .EVERYBODY'S. ■ The programme to be", screened at Everybody's at noon to-day embraces some of the world's best examples of the , biography art. . The', star feature is a beautiful Pathecolour miljtary romance in three parts, "King in Name Alone." ; The plot is sot in.one of the Slavonic States in Southern • Europe, where dynasties, like the .weather; are ■ ahvaj'6 changing," and > where, many many bands are always against big neighbours. In this picture a chance resemblance of a ./poor peasant to ''.the - reignmg Kiiig.enables the leader of the revolutionaries to perpetuate a glaring imposition, and after kidnapping . the real King place his nominee on the throne, [he rebel leader attempts to sway the kingdom, hut. the depth of character which the kingly duties bring forth', and also the uplifting influence of a-good woman's love, brings all'tho rebel's: schemes to naught, and the king in name, yet only a peasant, ie enabled to : right all wrongs and' bring once again happiness to. his natiyo country. The story (3500 ft.) is said to hold, the spectators' interest right to the end. The film is gorgeously poloured, and the.production , and costuming leaves nothing to be dosircd. : Aβ a i oounterfpil to" drama the management.; screen one of Keystone's favourite comedies, '-'A.Brand New Hero," with Boscoe Arbiickle, the Keystone's fat, boy, in. a ludicrous character. "Gau- | nionfc War Graphic" will, give the latest | war news, froni; the. seat of -war. A splendid comedy drama of; a delightful character is exemplified in the ','Girl of the Season." PEOPLE'S PICTURE PALACE./ ' Crowds filled the People's/Picture. Palace at every session on Saturday, and the special holiday programme. : of moving pictures caused favourable cpmmont v The popularity of this theatre is now firmly established, the'.comfortable seating accommodation, the highclass kinematography, and the delightful musical accompaniments ■ being sufficient to ensure the regular patronage, Interesting wnr items are . regularly screened and a further interesting budget from the theatres of war will be irioluded in the programme to be introduced for. the .first time, to-day. 'A magnificent Thanhouser drama' will be the star film in the new series! It bears the title of "The Catspaw," and 'is described, as something; exceptional. The scenes throughout are well harmonised,'the plot is admirably worked , out to a grand climax, and the parts are capably acted., by, a specially 'selected cast., A strong series 'of supporting films is promised. ' - ' • MACMAHON'S NEW THEATRE. : There were holiday attendances at the New Theatre on Saturday, when a complete change of programme was shown, headed by a powerful idomestic etory' entitled "A Dumb Passion," a drama of love and motherhood. "The Angelus" ie another charmingly appropriate picture,' whilst "Weird Rotdrua" has, by special request, been retained, for one more day. "Wonders of the Deep" is an interesting deep sea study, and "The Sunny .Shores of Italy" ie a pretty scenic. _ The comic element is very strong with "Ike and His Ma-in-Law," "Snobs, the Boxer," and "Sammy on the Tight, Rope." The programme is an exceptionally long and varied one. ...
, THE EMPRESS THEATRE. "Clasemates," by Klaw and Erlanger. in conjunction with the world-famed A.B. Company, will be introduced today at the Empress Theatre continuous pictures. This is described, ae' a_ magnificently staged etory of life in an American training college for military officers, and incidentally involves some thrilling adventures in the jungles ■ of South America. Miss- Daphne Wayne, who took the part of Judith in "Judith of Bethulia," appears in a leading rolo, and Mr. Henry Waltallis also prominent in the cast.'•'The-plot of ''Classmates" has to do with the rivalry of two young men who both seek to win Sylvia Randolph. A fight ensues between them which results in one becoming Mind, arid the other being expelled from the training college. How they become reconciled after a series of strange adventures in' the wilds of South America ie interestingly portrayed. The supporting subjects will include the latest war pictures.
