SAILORS' FRIEND SOCIETY
Christmas Day' was a most pleasant one for the men at the Sailors Friend Society. In the morning a hearty service was held, the missione.r (Mr. Moore) preaching from Luko 2, 11. Christmas letters were handed to the men as they left. In .the afternoon rare old games were indulged in, and prizes contested for. At 5 o'clock a tea was arranged for the mou. The church and institute had been prettily decorated by the workers. At 8 o'clock' a conoert was givoa by Mrs. T. E. Jones' to a big audience. Carols were a. feature much enjoyed. Mr. Moore thanked all the donors of gifts. ■The performers were: —Mesdames Jones, Gibbs, the Misses M. Jones, I. Jones, and D. Jones, and Messrs. T. E. Jones, IF. A.' Campbell, Dent (s.s. Lauderdale), Cummings (R.M.S. Kai Ora). Cheers for the performers and light refreshments closed a pleasant day. The winners in the day's sports were:—Messrs. Buckingham, Worthinghani, M'Donald, Gunn, Pankhurst, and Power. ;
