IDEAL HOLIDAY WEATHER ON THE LOCAL GREENS. Ideal weather prevailed for Boxing Day, and a delightful day was spent by\many hundreds of boivlere on the local and suburban greens. All were anxious to strike form in view of the approaching tournament season, and the conditions.were aR in their 'favour. Though heavy rain fell on Christmas morning, the greens were plcasurably keen and true, and a good standard of play'resulted. WELLINGTON OLUB. At the Wellington Club a progressive pairs tournament occupied tho members from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. Seven time-regulated games were played during that time; the result being a vnn ior Portebus (skips), with six wins, and 'C. Innes (leads) with 6 J wins (one of his games /was a tie). HUTT OLUB. At the Lower Hutt bowling greon an enjoyable time was spent' on Boxing Day. Two rinks paid a visit from Khandallah, and played two jounds, afternoon tea being provided at , the conclusion of the games. THE CHAMPION CLUB. DOMINION ASSOCIATION'S BANNER PRESENTED. A pleasant little function ;took place at the Wellington Club's pavilion at the close of the day's play on Saturday (Boxing Day). This was the formal presentation of the. Dominion Bowling Association's championship banner to the Wellington Club, '>whose representa-i tivos —Messrs. Grenf ell, Erskine, Thompson, and Porteous (s.) —were the first winners of the coveted honour at Dunedin early in', the present ySar. Mr. 1 E. J. Hill (president of the centre) said it was his pleasing duty to present the .banner to the president of the- olub whose representatives bad won if against all-comers in the first championship meeting held under the auspieces of the Dominion Bowling Association. ,Porteous and his merry men had played a grand game, and lad succeeded in adding to the laurels of the Wellington Club. (Applause.) It was the first time really' that a New Zealand championship rink tournament, had beenUheld, and it was. a. great honour for the club to have come out 'on top. He wished the rink more luck, and the more trophies they brought baok to the olub the more they would be pleased. He called for three oheers for Porteous and the members of his team, which were lustily given. In acknowledging ■ the presentation, Mr. Moult oh behjQf, of; the ' Wellington Club said that he had great pleasure irt, receiving the ;banner, which was in,deed a very lovely trophy, which had, be pointed out, been presented by the ladies of the Dunedin Bowling Centre. He was'ijuite sure that every memhor was gratified with the honour the olub had achieved in the southern city, and proud of the men who won it. He asked that the secretary o£ tho centre write to Dunedin expressing the Wellington Club's appreciation of the sporting qualities of the ladies of the Dunedin Centre. (Applause.) Mr. W. Porteous, on behalf of . the champion 1 rink, thanked the previous speakers for ; the .flattering- remarks about .the. team. He was sorry they were hot all there to hear them, , but on their behalf he thanked them. As far as the winning of the banner was concerned, that was now ancient history, and he did not need to say any more about it, except to remark that the Dunedin ladies had produced a : very handsome article. The tame rink, was going to Auckland. (Applause.) On the call of Mr. Hill, three cheers were given for the ladies of the Dunedin Bowling Centre. THE CENTRE TOURNAMENT. The Wellington 'Bowling Centre's tournament, which -commences- on the City greens at 9 a.m.-on Friday next, promises to be as enjoyable a fixture as usual,. and all those who ■ have entered are eagerly anticipating. the week-end. Rink play will extend over New Year's Day, Saturday, and Monday, and with favourable, weather the semi-finals and finals should be oorapleted on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. . By the time that. tournament is completed, a big contingent of local howlers will be packing their,trunks' for the Auckland trip. The second tournament, held under the auspices of the Dominion Bowling Association, commences in the northern centre on January 11. AUCKLAND TOT/RNAMENT. , (By Telegraph.—Presu Association.) Auckland, December 26. The' annual .tourney,'of / the Auckland Centre of the Dominion , Bowling Association, was commenced in ; fine; weather yesterday. The pennant match attracted an entry of 60 full rinks, and these were divided into six sections. Three days will bo devoted to section play. The semi-finals will. bo played on Wednesday and the final on Thursday.
