NEW NELSON -SERVICE. Messrs. Banna.tyne and Co. advise that tho Anchor Line's steamers Nikau and Kaitoa will be dispatched from Wellington for Nelson and Motueka at 5 p.m. to-day. Hath, steamers will return to Wellington on .Tuesday, Decombor 28, when- tho Nikau will withdraw in, order to be placed on tho Patent Slip. The Kaitoa will proceed to Nelson aud Picton on the evening of December 28, returning to Wellington on Thursday morning. The Nikau and Kaitoa will leave hero for Nelson and Motueka at 5 p.m .on December 31, and from Monday, January 4, the Kaitoa and Nikau will maintain a daily service between Wellington, Nelson, and Motueka till further notice. During her recent overhaul the Kaitoa has been Mted with passenger accommodation for eleven passengers. STILL WAITING. A report from Newcastle stales that now tho German cruisers are practically cleared of the coast trade routis, there wjll no doubt be a revival in the exports to oversea countries. Several vessels have
been held up from time to time at this port, owing to the German cruisers, and there is at present at one of the buoys in the harbour the schooner Kona, which has boen waiting for over two months for permission to leave. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Captain Jackson, the well-known skipper of the training ship Medway, is reported to bo ill at Falmouth. Captain Bonner, of the Waverley, had the misfortune to break hie knee-cap while the vessel was at Tarakoho recently. He was conveyed to the Nelson Hospital where it is reported that he is progressing favourably. Captain Stuart, late of the Kaitoa, is now in charge of the Wavcdcy. Captain Stevens has rejoined tho Kaitoa after having been ashore for several weeks with a broken leg. Captain Wildman, sen., of the Koi, is ashore at Nelson on account of ill-health. Captain J. Rutho, late mate of tho Kaitoa. has taken charge of tho Kol. Mr. Gilbcrteon is now mate of the Kaitoa. Mr. A. M'Donald has joined the Paloona as third engineer. Messrs. R. Craig, F. Kilgour, and J. A. Cowan, chief, second, and third engineers of the Ennerdale respectively, have signed off that vessel's articles. Mr. A. J. Duff, late purser of tho Mapourika, who recently underwent an operation in Wellington Hospital, has joined the Union Company's local staff. This week's direct boat from Wellington to Sydney—tho Moeraki—will arrive at this port from Lyttelton this morning and will berth at the Queen's Wharf No. 1 south. Sho will leave for Sydney and Hobart at 5 p.m.—one day early. It will be about December 30 before the C. and D. liner Makarini wiU reach Melbourne from London. She is bound to New Zealand ports. The Union Company's chartered 6teamer Canada Capo is loading sugar at Lamtoka for Vancouver. Subsequently she will load at Pacific Slope ports for New Zealand and Australia. An arrival at Wellington from Lyttelton yesterday was the Shaw-Savill steamer Kia Ora-a day earlier than was expected. She will sail on Saturday for Gishorne to continue Homeward loading and has been Axed to leave Wellington for London on January 6. The Nautilus Steam Shipping; Company, of London, is inaugurating a new .service from London and other English ports to Chile, Peru, and Ecuador. It is proposed that this service shall take tho place of that heretofore maintained by the Koemos Line, of Hamburg. A four-masted schooner named tho W. H. Smith has been fixed to load luinhor at Columbia River for Auckland. Provided the coastal steamer Defender arrives at Wellington from Hokitika and Westport in time she wiU be dispatched for Karamca this afternoon.
The Maoriland Steam Ship Company s collier Ennerdale (which arrived from Newcastle yesterday), and the Lauderdale (which is duo from Westport to-day), will lay up at. Wellington for the holidays. Bound from London to New Zealand porta R.M.S. Romuora haa left Cape 'ToT.-n for ifobart. She is due here about the middlo of January. On account, of the holidays tho Warrimoo ■will leave Melbourne on December 24, Hobart December 26. Bluff December 30, Dunedin December 31, and Lyttelton January 2, for Wellington. She -will arrive here on Sunday, Jxniwry 3, and be dispatched for Hobart and Melbourne on January 4—two days late. Tho 0. and D liner Star of New Zealand, which cleared Wellington for London yesterday moraine, took the following cargo from this port:-4J40 hales wool. 2 boles pitins, 160 casks tallow, 140 casks p»lts. 38 caj-ks casings. 5 kcirs casings. 48.436 carcasses mutton. 2581 legs mutton. 500 quarters beef. 83 bags hearts, 227 cases kidneys. The Union Company's Tarawera, at present on the lay-up berth at Dxvnedin, will run an excursion from that port to Oamaru on New Year's Day. With the balance of ber island fruit consigned to southern ports the Taviuni will leave Auckland to-day for Wellington where she is due on Saturday. The vessel is also bringing southern transhipments ex the Wyandotte- from San Francisco. ■ Up til! Monday morning last, Messrs. Levin and Oo.'s steamer Awahou- had picked up 130 bales of wool at East Ccaot stations. Bad weather then intervened and eottjonuently work had been at a standstill. Ecnorts received yesterday sto.ted that conditions had improved. Provided the Awahou has loaded the remainder of the wool, she will return to Wellington this evening. If not, she will go on to Napier and remain at that port till Monday next.
