HUTT AND PETONE NEWS

(From Oar Own Correspondent.) The price of bread has been raised at Petone from 4d. to 4}d. per loaf as from December 22. Pursuant to a resolution passed at the last meeting of the Petone Borough Council, a ballot was taken among the employees of the sewerago works, as to the number of holidays required at Christmas, with tho result that 20 voted for ten days and 12 against. Petone bathers have become somewhat diminished in numbers since the warning to beware of the red jellyfish was published. As far as can be ascertained, not one of these unwelcome intruders has been seen at Petone as yet, but scores of suspicious-looking dead bodies have been washed up on the beach.
