Sir,—lt may ho interesting to somo of your readers if I relate an experienco I had a little over ten years ago with another New Zen-lander. We marie a trip from Port Said to tho Pyramids in record Leaving the ship we journeyed by rail from Port Said along the banks of tho canal to Ismailia, and thence to Cairo, and wishing to seo as much as possible- in the day and catoh our ship again (which we' did at Ismailia), wo secured a guido at Cairo to tuko ii» round the Pyramide u«d SiMuo [ I will Beyer, forget the, Ajrah (flim ftvudo},
in describing the different places of interest through the streets of Cairo and then reaching the bridge over the Nile we had to wait an hour while the river traffic passed through and again the bridge was opened for traffic. Taking us round the banks, our guide first secured us some of the Nile water to drink, and then showed us the barracks of ''Tommy Atkins," remarking " 'Tommy Atkins,' fine fellow." Following on wo came to a large residence. "This is whore Lord Cromer lives, the real Khedive of Egypt." This camo back to my memory as soon as I read of Lord Cromer's statement of the insignificance of the Khedive, and uttered by an Arab over ten years ago.—l am, etc, . , , J. ALLEN.
