LIQUOR IN NO-LICENSE DISTRICTS
THE OLD AND AMENDING' ACTS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Pahlatua, December 22. In the Magistrate's Court to-day the licensee of the Makuri Hotel w&b charged with sending liquor into a NoLicense district, Masterton, without first obtaining a statement in writing. Counsel for the defendant contended there was no clause in the Act to justify the information. There was no offence, he held, prior to the passing of the amending Act on Novemoer 2. After hearing the evidence of the Police, the Magistrate said ho did not think there was anything under the old Act to make it compulsory for the .defendant to have a statement in writing. An he had to do when receiving an order was to put it through his liquor book and notify the Clerk of the Court. Under the amending Act, however, he pointed out that "the order had to be in writing in duplicate. Tho carrier must also produce a -opy cf tho order. The present information was laid a little bit too soon. Three informations were dismissed, and two other chargcs were adjourned.
