HOME LINERS LEAVE EGYPT. A cablegram has been received by the head office of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company, ptating that the steamcre Vr'airaana and Athenic. which conveyed part of New Zealand's Expeditionary Force to Egypt, left there on Friday last for New Zealand. They are due' in these waters early in January. SOMERSET AT AUCKLAND. Under charter to the New Zealand Shipping Company, the F. and S. Line's steamer Somerset arrived at Auckland from London, via Hobart, at 11.45 a.m. yesterday. She hos come out in place of the Hnapehn, and is expected to continue her journey to Wellington on Thursday, being due here on Saturday, December 26. Bound for Wellington, via Auckland, the Shaw-Savill liner Matatua has left London and is due at this port about February 15. The Northern Company's new auxiliary scow To Toko has been completed, and will undergo trials this week. Tho vessel is ono of two ecows built for the shallow bar services in the Hay of Plenty. To this end Te Toko has been fitted with two semiDiesel engines, each of 60 horee-power, adapted to burn crude oil. Her large holds have a carrying capocity of 150 tons, with a shallow draught, and she is fitted with special lifting arrangements for weights up to 10 tone. The vessel is 80ft. 6in. between perpendiculars, 22ft. 6in. in beam, and 6ft. 3in. deep in tho holds. Sho will he engaged in the trade to Whakatane and Opotilsi. BAD WEATHER ON WEST COAST. She will return to Wellington on Christmas night, aud sail for Nelson and West Coast ports at 12.45 p.m. on Boxing Day. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. Amies is now purser on the Pukaki. Mr. J. IJ.1 J . Burns, second engineer of the Pukaki, left that vessel on holiday leavo at Wellington yesterday. On account of tho Christmas end New Year holidays the Union Company's colliers Kamona and Karori will lay up at Wellington. Before proceeding i on to Lyttelton at 5 p.m. to-day the Union Company'e steamer Monow&i will land 264 tone of northern cargo. The vessel will return to Wellington on Thursday morning, and will Assist the Wahine in the ferry service on Ohristmas Uve. The ilonowai is scheduled to leave the southern port for Wellington on Saturday, December 26, and will sail from here for East Coast porta at 5. p.m. on Monday, December 28. The A. and A. Line's chartered steamer Lord Erne is expected to leave Lyttelton for Dunedin and Australian porte oa Thursday.

As the Mapourika will sail from Wellington for Picton and Nelson at 12.45 p.m. today, ehe will arrive back here on Thursday morning from Nelson dircct. Departure will be taken for Picton and Nelson again at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve. .

A departure from Wellington for TkraUohe last evening was the Eichard&on steamer Kahu. She will take cement to Napier and will then load wool -at Ea6t Coast stations for Wellington.

Prior to arriving at Wellington on Thursday the ste-amer Ripple will pick up wool at East Coa6t bays. She will remain in port till after the holidays, and will be dispatched for Napier and Gisborne at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, ( December 29. With transhipments consisting of explosives ex Home 6tcamero at Auckland, the schooner Huia is due at Wellington to-day. Subsequently ehe will visit West": Coast ports in order to complete discharge. The P. and S. Lino's chartered Bteamftr Wnakatane, which arrived at Auckland from Liverpool, via Durban, at 6.5 p.m. on Sunday, is due at Wellington about December 28.
