THE CHURCH AND POLITICS.

Thomas Milligan appears to imagine that the public is much coiiconiea to know if lie were the contributing factor in tho defeat of tho son5 on - f- M- B- Fishor at tlio recent General Election. Possibly tho public does not care two straws what Mr. Milor election. But I suggest to Mr. Milligan, who I heliove is a member of the Anglican y«rch and prominent- supporter tof tiie Bible-in-Schools League, that a much more urgent subject for cis consideration than tho Wellington Central seat is the parlous position of the Anglican Church. The bishops, priests, and deacons of that Church, with somo glorious exceptions, did, at the behest of the organising secretary of the Bible-in-Schools League, so far forget their holy calling, and the noble traditions of their Church, as to exceed their vocation and descend into the vulgar arena of a general election 'fight. Jirom that arena they have retired hopelessly beaten. When, if over, will the Church regain that prestige and honour and glory thus lost? This is tho question that Mr. Milligan and others of his way of thinking will do well to ponder gravely during the forthcoming Christmas and New Year time. —I am, etc., AN ANGLICAN LAYMAN ,WHO WAS NOT MISLED.
