B.M.S. KEMUERA CHASED. According to the special correspondent ot the "Press" in London, considerable excitement was caused In New Zealand circles in London by the reports of paseengere landed at Plymouth off the licmuia that ehe had been chased by German cruisers during' the voyago Home, One London paper became rather mixed In its geography, and described how on the way to Cape Town two German oTuieers threatened the liner, and later another sent out S.O.S. signals as hait to trap the eteamer. Then, the passenger-is reported to have said:— "After leaving Jlonte Video, the Remnera, sighted the smoke of a worship while a fancy drees ball was proceeding. The steamer extinguished eU lights, eteamed full speed, and changed her coutec. The next day the warship was out of .light." The correspondent was tol dauthoritativcly that no fancy drees ball took place during the voyage. On two occasions the pas6engers asked permission of .the captain, to i hold a' fancy dress ball, but each time the request was refused. On the way to Capo Horn, two German ships wore heard communicating ■ with one another by wirele66, but there were no S.O.S. signals. The real piece of excitement came after the liemueraleft- Monte Video. Lβte one afternoon, when the New Zealand steamer was peacefully ploughing her way across the South Atlantic there appeared far in the rear the smoke of a steamer. Whether friend or foe, it is impossible'to eny, but certain it is that, a race eneued. The oncoming vessel exerted itsolf to the utmost to catch up with the Remnera and there was much speculation on board as to the identity of the stranger. The Hemuera's Bkipper had no desire to leorn. anything about the pursuing vessel, 60 directly night fell and neither ship could see the other, the Remuera'-s couree was radicaly altered. When the succeeding dawn arrived, the RcmueTa \vß6 alone; Bho had effectively flung off her pursuer. /
