DISTRESS RELIEF

SECOND INSTALMENT, £15,000. His Excellenoy the Governor, the Earl of Liverpool, , as patron of the Great Britain, • Ireland, and Belgium Relief Fund, reporte that he has transmitted by cablegram to the High Commissioner, London, the sum of £15,000 as. the second cash contribution from the fund. The amount has been subscribed by the various committees and other organisations in the Wellington, Marlborough, Hawke'e Bay. and Taranaki districts. It also includes the sum of £2478 2s. 4d., handed in to the Treasury by various contributors throughout the Dominion. The special instructions of each committee, and the wishes of those giving donations. for a special purpose, have all been observed, and the sum will be apportioned as follows:—£6Bsß 16s. 7d. for the poor of Groat Britain and Ireland, to bo handed to the executive of the Prince of Wales's Fund for administration; £5121 3b. sd. for Belgian relief, to be given to the proper authorities at Home for distribution, and £20 for relief of distress in Ireland only. The total cash contributions now sent forward in connection with the fund amount to £35,000. There is also a considerable amount in the hands of other committees, which will be sent forward at an early date. Contributions of stock and produce are also beginning to arrive, and will be shipped as opportunity offers. In addition to the cash contribution, shipments have been made as follow :— 925 carcasses frozen mutton and lamb, 2000 pairs heavy New Zealand all-wool blankets, 124 crates of hares and rabbits, 177 packages produce, 307 cases clothing. •
