THE EGYPTIAN GARRISON London, December 16. The "Times" correspondent at Cairo is .convinced that the Turks are no match for the Egyptian garrison. How Turks could cross the desert in suffioient strength is not clear. ARAB OFFICERS REAPPOINTED. (Rec. December 17, 5.45 p.m.) London, December 16, Field-Marshal Von der Goltz has recalled and reappointed a number of cashiered Arab olh'cers, and has appointed Sekki Pasha Commamler. N of Syria.— "Times" and Sydney "Sun" services. GTJNS ON MOUNT CARMEL. (Reo. December 17, 6.45 p.m.) London, December 16. Preparations aro in hand for making Mount Carniel a mount for' German, guns.—"Times" and Sydney "Sun" services. Carmel (the "Park" or "Fruitful Field") is a mountain range in Palestine, which branches off from the north ends of the mountains of Samaria, runs north-west between the plains of Phoenicia and Sharon, and forms a bold promontory on the Mediterranean overlooking the Bay of Haifa. The highest point is 1750 ft. Its scenery is amoegst the finest in Palestine, and amidst the forests are eeen the remains of former villages. Uarmel is sacred' as the scene of Elijah's sacrifice (1 Kings xviii). The Convent of Carmel, seated high on tho west declivity of the ridge over-' looking the eea, consists of a large square block of huildings, and comfortable accommodation is offer!d-to travellers by the Carmelite monks.
