PILOT DAWSON TO BE HARBOUBr MASTER. ■••■■■ .At the monthly meeting last night tho Wellington Harbour Board considered the: pending retirement of tie harbourmaster (Captain Johnson), and also that of the deputy-harbounnastor .(Captain Wm. Shilling). The board decided that Pilot J. E. Dawson should be ap : pointed deputy-harbourmaster at a salary of £450, and that,- on the retirement of Captain Johnson ou March' 31 nest, Pilot Dawson should become' tar-, bourinaster at a salary commencing at £500 per annum, and rising to £600. Pilot J. A. Hayward ie to succeed Pilot Dawson in his present position, and will later become deputy-harbour--master at the salary of £450. • ' As Captain Shilling will have paseed from the board's service before the next monthly meeting, the following resolution was placed on the books:—"That the Wellington Harbour Board, on the retirement of Beputy-Harbourtnaetcr William Shilling after a contimious service of 37 years, places on record ite , high appreciation of his valuable and faithful services, and the board, in bidding farewell to him, hopes that he. may long be spared to enjoy his wellearned leisure. In speaking to the motion, the chairman (Mr; E. Fletcher) and members paid high tributes to the ability and character of the retiring officer. ..■■',■ ' i
