STRANGE DISCOVERY (Rec. December 17, L6O a.m.)' Amsterdam, December 16. \ Mr. Tinsley,. an English director re* siding at Rotterdam, placed the Uranium Steamship Company's hotel at the • municipality's disposal- at the out-* break of the war. Thereupon the building was transferred to the Red : Cross . Society for the reception of the wounded. . ■'.'■.'•■ i The authorities were astounded, as the.4' result of a police raid last week, todis-j cover that the kitchens had been trans- f formed into a- meat-preserving factory, * the Red Cross cooks being busy pack-' ing the meat into boxes. Fifteen hun- ; dred contained stew, and twelve thous« and empfiy boxes were waiting for mince-meat prepared in accordance with l the German Army's recipe. The Rod Cross hospital was appwently in the hands of a meat-packing company, including the German manager o'f__the i Uranium Hotel and the Dutch manager! of one of the Red Cross departments, which carried on business in the Red Grose premises, receiving quantities o£orders from Gormany.
