WHARF WORKERS' UNION
INVESTIGATION BY AUDITORS. 'The adjourned general meeting of the Wellington Wharf Labourers' Industrial TJniqn of Workers was held last evening. Mr. F. Curtice presided, and there were about 40 members present. When the members met a couple of weeks ago it was stated that the auditors were examining the union's books and preparing a balance-sheet. Last evening the auditors reported that they had audited the aocounts from November 5, 1913, to November 23,. 1914. v They submitted a report a-s tho result of their investigations. "It is necessary in the first place," the report ran. "to state that our appointment as auditors was not notified to us until some months after it had been' made, and we were therefore not given an opportunity at the time the appointment was made to outline any satisfactory system of accounts. In consequence of this, books were obtained which were quite unsuitable for the purposes of the union." The auditors further reported on the condition in which they found the books,' and added that at present it was impossibele for, them .to give any, definite certificate. In a detailed statement of affaire the auditors showed the liabilities of the union at £133 18s. 3d., and the assets at £79 12s. 10d. ■ , '7 It was reported that a,further etatement of affairs would probably be presented later on, so the question of the adoption of a balance-sheet was held over. ~.■•■■■; ' ' : . It was resolved to take legal advica as to whether court proceedings should ba taken in certain matters. The secretary (Mr. G.' Bruce) stated that the financial position of the unior now was, apparently, that the unioiowed. £140 and had £70 to its credit.
