SWAPPING HORSES IN MIDSTREAM
GERMAN PRESS DISPLEASED OVER VON MOLTKE'S FALL. London, December 14. German newspapers ' show that, though the Press • is strictly prohibited from criticising the acts of the Government there is much displeasure at the sudden change of military leadership. It is stated that Field-Marshal von Moltke ivas politely side-tracked, and supreme command givgn to General von Falkenheyn. The "Tageblatt" states that General von Falkenheyn(then Secretary o? State for war) was appointed temporary Chief of Staff on October 20. Therefore he has held the leadership since the fall of Antwerp, since when he has been uniting all the functions 'which in' 1870 were divided between Von Moltke and Vou Roon. ! It is stated that the Kaiser was opposed to Von Moltke's proposal to concentrate on the Verdun-Toul line, because of the possibility of a hostile enveloping movement breaking the wedge which Von Moltke proposed to advanoo upon Paris,
