ATHLETIC SPORTS.
LAWN TENNIS PUBLIC SCHOOLS' CHAMPIONSHIPS THE FINALS. Finals in connection with the. Public Schools' lawn' tennis championships were played on the Brougham Hill Club's courts in the presence of an interested crowd of spectators yesterday afternoon. The result of the play in the Primary Schools' contest was that the challenge cup attached to the event passed from the possession of Clyde Quay School to the Terrace School, whose representatives scored seven points, as against two points each scored by the Te Aro and the Clyde Quay representatives. In the secondary contest, the cup was won by Normal School, after it had been held by Petone for an ■ unbroken period of five years. The winner of every individual championship received a medal, and the runner-up in the Primary Schools' Girls' Singles received a racquet, specially presented by Mr. W. J. Seaiter. The fortunate winner of this prize was Miss 'S. M'Cabo (Te Aro). . At the conclusion of the final games, the prizes were presented by Mr. G. N. Goldie, a vice-president of the .Wellington Lawn Tennis' Association, and the actual founder of the Public Schools' Lawn Tennis Championships. In handing over the trophies, Mr. Gcldie congratulated the winners and the various officials, Who 'had laboured so hard for the success of the tournament. _ The progress that had been made since the championships had been .started eleven years ago-was, he pointed out, a good example for who were making efforts to establish lawn tennis.in the public schools of the Old Country.
RESULTS. ' The following are tie results of the finals in the various classes: — Primary. • Girls' Singles.—L. Croll (Terrace) defeated S. M'Cabe (Te-Aro), 30-28. , Girls' Doubles—L. Croll and V. Lester (Terrace) defeated 6. Campbell and 'N. Schauer'(Clyde Quay), 30—27. ' Boys' Singles.—France • (Clvde Quay) ■defeated Prince (Te Ato), 30—24. Boys' Doubles. —Holmes and Kelly (Terrace) defeated France and Henderson (Clyde Quay), 30—18. Combined Doubles. —Hancock and G. Law (Te'Aro) defeated Holmes and L Croll (Terrace), 30—21. . ■ . Secondary.. Girls' Singles.—M. Tracy (Normal) defeated A. Stevens (Technical College), 30—22. '..■•■ Girls' Doubles.—M. Ziman and M. Tracy (Normal) defeated P. Wright and E. Clark (Normal), 30—13. Boys' Singles.—E. Ambler ketone) defeated Hunter (Normal), .30—18. Boys' Doubles.—Ambler and Thomas (Petone) defeated Hunter and Harris (Normal), SO—2-1. Combined Doubles.—Hunter and M. Ziman \Normil) defeated Ambler and S. Davis sPetone), 30^13.
CRICKET
OUTSIDE ASSOCIATION, Senior Grade.—St. Anne's v. Har,bonr Board.—St. Anne's batted first and made 174 (C. Rouse 72, Hill 38, Galvin 21). Harbour Board have five wickets down for 105. Hill (three) and Rouse (two) took the wickets for St. Anne's. Playing in the junior grade, St.. Anne's imade 247 for four wickets (declared), (J. Hayden 108, Gray 101, not out, Hoare 15), against Druggists' 17 and 60 (Boale 15, Goode li). W. Rouse, fivo for 7, Hayden, four for 9, in the first, and Waller, Gray, Cummings, and Fareharn, two each in the second, took the wickets. St. Anne's won by an innings and 170 runs. Hayden and Gray put on 173 runs for the fourth wicket. MID-WEEK TRIAL GAME. RIFLE-SHOOTING
HIGHLAND RIFLE CLUB. The Highland-Rifle Club continued its competition for trophies donated by Messrs C. and A. Odlin, Ltd., and the Wellington Cabinet Co., Ltd., on Saturday. The annual rifle meeting will be hela at Trenthain on January 1 and 2, and a very attractive programme has been issued. Inquiries for programmes have been received from various parts of Ne *- Zealand, and indications point to a good meeting. The prize-list is again a liberal one, and the young shots are specially catered for, both in cash and trophies. The cadet championships, both individual and teams, will be held on the first day of the meeting.
