"I hopo one "of tho greatest realisable things . shall be a mighty .'revival sweeping up and down 'the country, bringing in tp, the' Kingdom ,of God thousands and thousands of precious souls," was the keynote.of the three addresses given yesterday'in the Vivian Street Citadel 'by Commissioner Hoddor (late of Japan) on the occasion of a Dominion welcome. There were very large and • enthusiastic gatherings throughout the day; the Chief Secretary (Lieutenant-Colonel Powley) was in charge; 'Mrs. Hodder gave ,a homely, practical address in the morning, and the commissioner spoke with .vigour and power from a portion of The Sermon on. the Mount, in which he earnestly exhorted'his auditors to "hunger and thirst after righteousness." In the afternoon he was hoartily welcomed by Major Toomer, divisional commander for Duriedin Division; Major Newby (Chrjstchurch Division),' Brigadier Vince (Auckland Division), Brigadier Carmichaer ' (Wellington Division), Brigadier- Gist (the Training College),and Brigadier Hoare, on .behalf of the young people. Ensign (Chaplain) Garner, who is in .charge of the army marquee at Trenthani, took the opportunity of mentioning .the extreme kindnessi which he and the Army bad received at the hands of the military authorities and the men in training. 'That kindness ■ had on' several occasions been shown in a practical way. 'Die whole .of the Salvation. Army -was under a /deep obligation to the military and i the men. (Cheers.) _ ;' The Commissioner, in replying on behalf of his wife and himself, said that the welcomes he had recoived from every .class in Ihe community were most • touching,' and were, ne understood, characteristic of New Zealand. While he was in this country he wanted a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit—a great revival. But this would not be their only desire. 'They hoped that many new halls and sooial institutions would be erected, and that tho work in other directions: would. develop. Beyond and above this it was his supremo desire that people should be swept into the Kingdom, and the Kingdom of Cod should indeed be established upon earth. There was a crowded meeting in the evening, when the Commissioner again spoko. ' .
