MAGISTRATE'S COURT

HUTT MILK VENDOR CHARGED A CASE TO BE REOPENED. Reserved judgment was given by Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court on Saturday morning in respect to the case in which Arthur Copping, proprietor of the Gracefleld Farm, Lower Hutt, is -charged with selling adulterated milk. The Magistrate judgment agakst each of the three points raised by Mr. F. E. Pethoriek, lor the defence. The points raised were: (1) That the bottles containing the Bamples of milk were not properly corked; (2) that the analyst's certificate did not, in the matter of wording, comply with the regulations; (3) that the certificate failed to show the quantity of added water. The Magistrate remarked that the first point, merely-de-pended on the evidence, and the evidence had clearly shown that the bottles were correctly corked. As to point 2, the' certificate, had substantially complied with the regulations,- while the certificate had clearly shown the quantity of added water. .'■' Mr. PethericK asked that the case bo reopened l as he wished to call evidence as to ,an accident having occurred to the milk. Mr. P. S. K. Macassey, for the prosecution, -at objected, but eventually, after some disoussion, the Magistrate-agreed to hear the eyidenco mentioned to-day.

OTHER CASES. (Before Mr. D. G. A. Ccoper, S.M.) John >Brown Richards was remanded to December 16 on three charges of theft—(l) of goods valued at 17s. 6d., belonging to Kirkcaldie and Stains; (2)' numerous articles, valued at £12, the property of the Shaw, Savill and Albion .Steamship Company; (3) goods, valued at 155., from the New Zealand and African Company. Cargo broaching was alleged against accused. Mr. H. F.. Ayson appeared on his behalf. Accused was remanded to W r ednesday, bail beintr. allowed in £50. Alfred John Burrows was charged with.entering the dwellinghouse of Robert Stout, f in Willis Street, with intent to commit a crime. ! t . Chief Detective Broberg explained that accused had been arrested at Dun'edin, resultant upon information received from Wellington. A remand was asked for, so_ that the case might be furthefr investigated. Acoused was remanded to Wednesday. , . A young man; named Alfred Leonard Ansell was remanded to Wednesday next on a charge of attempted criminal assault. , John Chambers was fined £2, in default seven days'imprisonment, for rn'decency. ''-.-._ . For insobriety, William Lynch was fined 405., or seven days' imprisonment; Alfred Hart, 205., or three days; Robert Stephens, 10s., or 48 hours. Eight first offenders were dealt with.
