WOMEN'S REFORM LEAGUE

..AFTER THE BATTLE. A most cheerful, gathering of the Wellington Women's Branch of the New Zealand Political Reform League took place in their rooms in Ballance Street on Saturday evening. The hall was crowded, and the proceedings were marked with the greatest,enthusiasm. The president, m the course of her reii'.nrkh, warmly thanked member's of the league for their fruitful and unselfish work at the elections. The Reform Party had had the combination of the Opposition Party and the Ilea Federation to combat, and had emerged from the battle after a valiant fight the strongest party of the three. The speaker went on to say that it was always a pleasure to work with the league members, who, no matter how much they might disagree with their opponents, always displayed the utmost good nature. She expressed groat regret over the defeat of the Hon. F. M. B. Fisher, but confidently added that so able an administrator wiould not long be out of Parliament. Dr. Newman, who 'arrived at halfpast eight, was loudly applauded, and vigorously cheered as he made liis way through the hall to the stage, the large audience rising and singing "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." Aftor the applauso had subsided Dr. Newman gave a bright and amusing account of the emotions of a.candidate during tho recount, and also told his audience that he had'that day received a-telegram from a friend saying: "Dear Newman, I prayed for you with result." (Laughter). He heartily congratulated the Women's League upon its flourishing condition; and paid a warm tribute to the ladies of Wellington East and other parts who had' worked so hard to secure his return. He claimed that so large a body of women, useful, unselfish, capable, and enthusiastic, banded together to help candidates was something for the Reform Party to be proud of. Several members of Dr. Newman's Men's Committee who were present also spoke in congratulatory terms of the Women's League, and expressed tho hope that gatherings of the combined leagues (men's and women's) would bo held in the future for mutual benefit.

Six new members to the league were elected, and the proceedings terminated with rousing cheers for Mr. Massey and Dr. Newman," and the singing of the National Antbeni.
