FOR HIGH TREASON GERMAN CONSUL AT SUNDERLAND London, December 9. •' A.'. Ahlers, • late German - Consul at Sunderland, has been sontencoi to death on a charge of high treason. He was indicted under a statute of Edward 111,- dealing/with the levying of war against the filing. He was.naturalised in 1905. '' Ahlers stated that he was not aware ' of tho declaration of war when he assisted to repatriate reservists. His idea on August 4. was that Germany's ultimatum to Belgium would be withdrawn.
