Readers of The Dominion must have noticed how Prohibitionists are continuing to reiterate tliat the bogus assertion that Lord Kitchener said "abstain from liquor" to the British Expeditionary Force now fighting for liberty and 'civilisation against the * Road Hogs of Europe and their Ally the Prohibitionist Turk—the. most cruel and treach-, erous nation" in - Europe. Now, Lord Kitchener warned the'troops against excesses jn "wine and women." That is right' and reasonable, but the great Field-Marshal neyer_ said "be teetotallers and prohibitionists." Yet this is what the Prqliihitionists would lilw tip people in New Zealand to believe. Lord Kitchener wanted a temperate army; and he showed his faith m the British soldier's eelf-rospeot by entrusting him with a first consignment of 1(50,000 gallons of rum. 'This the War Office (Lord Kitchener) described as "an act of timely'forethpuglit for the welfare of the British soldiers, on the Continent." When dip! a. Prohibitionist ever do such a thoughtful act for the welfare of the soldier? : An English newspaper by last mail reports that the Canadian troops now camped on Salisbury Plain, are receiving a regular supply of two
thousand (2000) barrels of English ale every week. Yet Prohibitionists, to suit their own ends, will clutch at any straw in order to turn temperance into prohibition and proclaim this deplorable war a teetotal campaign!
