ANOTHER EXPOSURE
PROHIBITION DECEPTION. A MISLEADING CIRCULAR. (By New Zealandor.) A circular issued by Prohibitionists was left at my door this morning. It contains many unsupported statements, numerous inaccuracies, and the exposure of one statement will show the ''reckless, and untrustworthy" character of such circulars as a whole, to use Mr. Phillip Showden's phrase. It is stated by tho Prohibitionists that there was no sly grog-selling in Auckland in November ]ast during the strike. I enclose a copy of a telegram from Auckland, which appeared in "The Dominion" on November 20. It is as follows:— RAID ON GREENGROCER'S SHOP. SLY GROG-SELLING. (By Telegraph.—PreEe Association.) Auckland, .November 19. Acting upon a search warrant, Sergeant Rutledge and Sergeant Rook raided a greengrocer's shop in Alexander Street tornight and seized a quantity of gin and whisky. The names of the proprietors (husband and wife) and those cf three men and a woman were taken with, a view to prosecution. The liquor seized was secreted in various parts of the shop and adjoining I rooms, and drinking was going on when I the police entered the placed The Prohibitions in Auckland clamoured for the closing of the hotels during the Btrike . time in November last year, and, .this is a sample of what tflpk place during that exciting .period.
