■Tho i large residence'of the late Sir Patrick Buckley, situated in Parliament street, Lower Hutt, was destroyed by hre on' Monday evening. The local fire brigade,, owing to a strong wind, and the iauure or, the water supply, were unable to save even the contents of the building. The property is administered by the Public .trustee on behalf of the Holworthy Estate, and was occupied by Mr. Charles Pratt, who was absent at the time of tho outbreak. The house which, was over. 40 years old was ins ,o r^ m ,. tlle New Zealand Office for ±,1460, whilst the contents were covered in the South British Office for £250, and in the Norwich Union office for £50 . • .At the annual meeting of the Potono Ambulance Van Committee, the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) presiding, the following delegates were eected:— 1.0.0JP..Mr W Clarke: 1.0 Oddfellows M.U., H. Turner; 1,0.0. Rechabites, J. Kyle; Nursing Division, Mrs. Bennett; Ambulance Division. Mr. Andrews jgeneral public, Mrs. Corner and Mr. M. H. Wilson and Mr. Gough; Druids, Mr. Head. Officers were elected as follow:T-Secretary, Mr. Wilson: treasurer, Mrs. Bennett; auditor, Mr. Sturman. The report stated that the van had received 53 calls during the year—34 from Peionc, Koro-Koro 2, Lower Hutt 16, Silverstream 1. Total to date, 245. '■■ A special vote of thanks was accorded Mrs. Yatea and Mr. Smart for their services, and their resignations were' accepted with regret..
