A LONG CRIMINAL RECORD
(By Telegraph.—Press Aesootatlon.) \ Hamilton, December 8. _In the Supreme Court, Richard John Hackott, on live charges of theft, eleven of false,pretences, and escaping from custody,:was sentenced to two years' imprisonment on each count for false pretences,, the'sentences te be cumular tive, and to. six months' for escaping from custody. Mr. Justice Cooper, addressing'the prisoner,, said it was a pity to see a man of Hackett's apparent ability with such a long series of onme. He would not impose a heavy penalty, because he did not want to crush prisoner utterly, but wished to give him a chance. He hoped he would serve his L sentence without giving the. authorities, trouble, and with a view to being properly dealt with by'the Inson Board. 'The prisoner was still in the prime of life, and there was a chance for reformation.
