PAHIATUA NOTES.

A deputation of settlers living on the Maiicatainoka Xorth lload route, in the Maugatainoka Block, waited on tho Pahiatua County Council on Saturday, aud requested that the road.be repaired in order to allow the settlers to cart their milk to the cheeae factory. A grant of £10 towards the work was mado by the council: : The council also made a contribution of £5 towards tho Pahiatua Borough Library. It -was also decided not to take any steps at the present time regarding the erection of a bridge over Tyleo's Ford, Maka River, near the Mukauri township. Mr. C. Bauckham, who has beeii a member of the Pahiatua Post Office staff for the past fourteen years, baa been, transferred to Wellington. As showing the demand lor land in this district, and also the estimates of values, the goodwill of a partly itnpioi , - ed section in the Mangatainoka Block, disposed of by tender, realised • £300. The tenders ranged from £80 M £300.

A team of tennis players from tbe Pahiatua District High School journeyed, to Masterton on Saturday, and defeated a team from the Masterton High School, the scores being: Pahiatua, 259; Masterton, 204. The return cricket match,- Pahiatua v. AVoodvillo, played at Pahiatua, resulted in an' easy win for the home team by an innings and 14 runs. The local bowlers were in good form, the. best averages being: D. Hewitt, eight wiokets for 4 runs; H. Hare, sis wickets for 9 runs; and H., Pe'arcey, four wickets for 8 runs. _ ' ■_ Good progress is being made with the central metalling contract on the Government road through the Ma.ngatainoka Block. Tbe installation of officers of .the Pahiatua Druids Lodge took place last week-end, the District President, Bro. A. Simpson, of Feilding, assisted by P.D.P. Bro. JF. Jackson, of Palmerston North, performing the ceremony.
