SERIOUS BUSH FIRE

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Dunedln, December 7. What is said to be the most serious bush fire known in the district broke out at Whare Flat this morning, and continued to rage all day. At one time the local school was in danger, and some difficulty was experienced in getting the children away. Residents of tho neighbourhood, assisted by the corporation men, saved the teacher's residence, but a five-roomed residence, owned by Mrs. Glendining, of Roslyn, and used as a week-end residence, was destroyed. The house was insured in the National office for £100, and the furniture in tho same office for a similar amount. Mrs. Glendining estimates her loss at about £400. Late to-night the fire was travelling in the direction of Waitati.
