AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS
(By Telegraph—Presa Association,) Christchurch, December 4. Agricultural statistics collected by the Department of Agriculture (luring October and November show that the area in wheat is 189,567 acres, or an increase on last year of 22,793 acres, and nearly equal to' the area of the year before. A thirty bushel crop will barely bo sufficient for requirements, and it is very doubtful if the yield under the, most favouraßlo circumstances from now onwards will reach that figuro. The area sown in oats is estimated at' 287,561 acres, as against 361,741 last year,': and barley as 18,347 acres, against. 32,022 acres. Both oats and barley crops are likely •to be much lighter than last year. There are . 21,887 acres reported as planted. in potatoes, against 29,164 acres last season,. Of the four, chief food crops, therefore, only wheat shows an increase in area. ■ Local grain and produce markets are practically lifeless, and there are no changes to report.
