a Mr. D. 6. A. Cooper, S.M., presided over a sitting of the Magistrate s Court oil Saturday. •/Allen M'Lennan, who created a disturbance in a Cliineso fruit, shop in Cuba Street was charged (1) with assaulting Wong Some; (2) assaulting Wong Choiv; (3) using obscene language. It appeared.that accused, who had been drinking, walked into the fruit shop, purchased some fruit, and then attempted to eiiter the living quarters of the building. Wong Some remonstrated and M'Lennon struck him with his fist, then heaved the bag of fruit at Wong Chow's face, and left. He was then arrested by a policeman. A fine of 10s. or 48 hours was imposed in respect to the first charge, ss. in respect to the second; and £2 or seven days in respeot to the third. Costs were also allowed against accused. Two Indians and a Greek, who came to blows in Willis Street, pleaded not guilty to charges' of using threatening behaviour. Their names were Kiki Kama, Sorterio Peter, and Phanfe Chhiba. Each detailed his version of the affair in mutilated English. The two natives of India blamed the Greek, while the Greek hlaftied the Indians. "I think you are all in. it," remarked the _ Magistrate after hearing their stories, "and so, to teach you that you aro not allowed to figlit in the street I will fin© you each 10s., or 48 hours." Georgo Griffith was sent to gaol for 14 days for deserting from the Rakaia. For ' drunkenness, Charles Henry Hine, ■ Patrick Coakley, and William Reid were each fined 405., or 6even days' gaol, while Thomas M'Laughlin, John Fomtesey, and Thomas Vincent M'Knight were each' fined 10s., or 48 hours. Eight first offenders Were dealt with. At the Lower. Hutfc Police Court on Saturday, before Messrs. G. Chapman and W. James, J.P.'s, Elizabeth Murphy was fined 405., in default seven days, for being drunk whilst in charge of a. horse and cart'.
