THE GENERAL ELECTIONS

METHODIST RESOLUTIONS ON BIBLE IN SCHOOLS. The Taranaki-Wanganui Methodist Synod passed tlio following resolution: The expresses its satisfaction, at tile continued growth and activity of the Bible-in-State-Schools League now numbering over 150,000 members, and the able manner m which Canon Garland and his coadjutors placed the evidence before thdjParliamentary Commit tee. ' The Synod regrets that that committee by its recommendations carried by the narrowest majority gave a lead to Parliament which resulted, in the question being withheld from the people through Dho Referendum' not being granted and the question thus being liurled into the arena of politics at'the election. We realise that some advance has been made in receiving some recognition by Parliament of the neoessity of Bible teaching and urge our ministens to take advantage of the facilities offered under the Nelson system until the more adequate provisions advocated by the league be secured. We also pledge ourselves to strenuous action with a view to obtaining tlio referendum from the next Parliament. The Nelson Methodist Synod passed the following resolution:— "This Synod is of ' opinion that, all other things being equal, no candidate for Parliament, is worthy of the support of our people who .i 6 not prepared to give them the right to vote on the question of the introduction of the Bible into our State schools."- (Published by arrangement.)
