POSITION ON THE EASTERN FRONT' The following telegram dated 1 December 5 has been received by His Excellency the Governor from the Secretary of State for the. Colonies. The French Government report lively oannonadas round Nieuport and Ypres, <rad on the right bank of the Moselle, Lesmeuil, and the Dexon Signal Station have been occupied. Tho Russian report of December 2 states that the Germans took the offensive to the west of Lodz. . At Bartfield, beyond the Carpathians, we captured twelvo hundred prisoners and sis machine-guns irero taken. On December 3 there was obstinate fighting on tho front of tho Grovno-Lowicz line and on the western roads towards Lodz and Piotrkow. On the ctlier fronts there ivero no essential modifications.
