E/Coad moved:.;" That ae a large number of assistant teachers' ;in the lower grades were not taken into account when Schedule VI of the new Education- Apt'was being drawn up; that the members,be asked; to give full consideration to the positions of these teachers, and-:to.introduce legislation to meet the cases of the most deserving teachers in these grades." The following by-laws were adopted, and incorporated in the constitution as Section (d) of Clause 17, viz^: — (1) Each branch, institute of this District Inetitute having no fewer then 70 members shall elect, one representative to the meeting of the. New. Zealand Educational Institute for every seventy members on its roll; •;' > . (2) The election shall be carried out in a manner similar, to that prescribed in Sections (a), (b), (c) of this clause/ ■ (3) Th'e secretary of,the branch institute shal_L : forward to .the secretary .of the District Institute so as to reach him not later than May 18 the names of the ; representatives .so elected. ; : ■, . (4) In case of failure to elect representatives, or, • to:, comply by-law (3) above, the committee of manager ment of thi6 District Institute, shall forthwith proceed to appoint representatives, in the manner'prescribed:in Section (e) of this clause. On the motion of Mr. W. W. Eountree the following motion was carried. :— "That Clause 5, Section (b) of the constitution be amended so: as to read :— 'That the annuaj subscription payable to the treasurer' of the District - Ins.ti- ' trite (or branch, if: any) shall be:—for teachers in-receipt of an annual salary of £140,'0r under, seyen shillings arid sixpence per annum; from ;, £150 to £250, twelve shillings and sixpence per annum; over £250, £1 Is, per annum?
