ARBITRATION COURT AWAR.

WANGANUI CARPENTERS. [ The award of the Arbitration Court in the dispute of the Wanganui branch of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters has been filed with the Clerk of Awards (Mr. G. 8. Clark). The term of the award, which applies to Wanganui, Waverley, Marton, and ,ae far north as Ohakuhe, is from November 30,1914, to December 16, 1916. Tho schedule provides for an eight hours' day, with a half-holiday from noon on Saturday, ( nd a minimum wage for journeymen carpenters and joiners of Is. 6d. per hour! with I s - P 6 )" day extra for leading hands. The overtime rates are time apd a quarter for the first two hours, time and a half thereafter, up to 10 p.m., double time between 10 p.m. and the ordinary time of starting, time and a quarter for work between 6 a.m. and tho, ordinary timo of commencing, and double time for work done on Sundays and the statu-I'tory-holidays. Piecework is allowed only in respect of stair-building. Provision is made for extra payment for suburban and country work, and apprentices' wages are fixed as follow:—First year, 10s. per week; second year, 155.; third, £1; fourth, £1 ss ; ; fifth, £1 155.; and 2s. a week extra in the case of a pupil gaining a two-year technical course certificate. Preference to unionists is granted, with provision for under-rate workers.

The Wangamu Tramways aro exempted from the award, and the Wanganui Meat Company is oxempted from all provisions except those dealing . with minimum wages and overtime. A memorandum attached to the award states that it was based on the recommendation of tlie Conciliation Council, with a slight alteration in the clause relating to the scope of the award, which was agreed upon by the parties at tho hearing.
