HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. "The Magpies," a talented costume comedy company, who supply the first part at His, Majesty's Theatre this week, have made a hit with Wellington audiences, and tho fun is kept going during the hour they are on the stage. Kelly and Pollock, American sketch artiste,'and Matilde and Elvira, graceful and clever Spanish dancers, also contribute acceptably to tho evening' 3 amusemeiit. Other artists who are appearing include tho Newmans, Ywaxy, Bert la Blanc, and Miss Eloise Tajlor. THE KING'S THEATRE. If one wants the see what the present war is actually like a visit should bo paid .to the King's Theatre, where ouo of the most realistio battlefield scenes is. being shown in the current week's programme. In-tho "Battle of Lebbeke," the German Array is shown attempting to cross the Scheldt, and being driven back by the Belgians. Another picture of merit is the Japanese drama,' "The Wrath of the Gods." The programme also includes many eomio, scenio, ■ and educational films. EVERYBODY'S THEATRE. "Her Big Scoop," and "The Face on the Bar/ Room Floor,'-' are two of the leading features at Everybody's Theatre. The first.picture is a story of. struggle and strife and woman's intuition, intcrwoveii with a . splendid love romance. "The Face on the Bar Room Floor" is a Keystone, comedy, with Charles Chaplin in the leading role. Other pictures are the latest "Gaumont War Graphic," Joke on Jane" (comic), and a beautiful scenic, entitled "Panorama of Belgium from the River Meuse. : ; PEOPLE'S PICTURE PALACE. *' To-day will see a complete change of programme, presented at the . People's Picture Palace, in Manners Street. The new series is said,to be well up to the high standard, in moving pictures set by the. management of this theatre. "The Nightwatchman's Daughter" will be one of the star productions in the new series.. It. is a powerful drama, full of thrilling incidents from beginning to end. Another good picture will be a comic, entitled "Hie First Ride." A tramp, evidently weary of Talking discovers, a messenger's bicycle and takes possession of it. His numerous adventures are said to be extremely funny, and have to be seen to be appreciated. Other pictures on the new programme will include the latest "War Chronicle" and "Travel and Sport in India." : THE EMPRESS THEATRE. "What a -Woman Will Do," a dramatic, "feature" by the Regent Compauy, will be the chief attraction of tho new programme to be presented at the Empress Theatre to-day' and to-night. It is represented in the plot that Phillip Lewis marries Alice, a beautiful yet fickle young- woman, who soon proves a harsh-stepmother to Dolly, Lewis's little daughter.- Eventually Alice elopee with Bryce, a friend. Ten years pass, and Lewis having.met with business reverses, Dolly goes on the stage. Frederick Bryce, now a ruined man owing to Alice's extravagances, sends Lewis a letter stating his intention to commit suicide. The letter is mislaid by Lewis, but he goes to see Bryce. The latter shoots,himself just as Lewis enters the ■room. Lewis is found guilty of killing Bryce,' and is sentenced to imprisonment for-life by-Judge Bryce, brother of the dead man. Dolly now sets her-, self the task of securing her father's release. ' She secures an introduction to'the Judge's son, who falls in love with Dolly. • Dolly utilises her power over young Bryce, who squanders all his money on her., Ultimately the, missing letter is found, which indubit- , ably proves Lewis's innocence. Dolly falls in love with young Bryce,; and her happines is complete when her father is released from gaol. -There will be a special selection'of supporting films. v -,
"BUNTY PULLS THE STRINGS.", "Bunty," the charming - character drama by the world-famous Scottish dramatist, Mr. Graham Moffat, is to make her reappearance at the Grand Opera House for a short season of-four nights, commencing on Wednesday evening, next, together with the other quaint nlo who figure with "Bunty" in tho tish play of humour, "Bunty Pulls the Strings." Mr. and Mrs. Graham Moffat will hare the support of precisely the same company; which appeared with them during their lecent triumphant season in, Wellington, viz.:—Mis3 filla Young, p the "String-Pulling Bunty" ; Mr. Abie Barker, the inimitable Rab; Miss Winnie Moffat, the ' youthful Teenie; Miss Nail Taylor, the vinegary Aunt Susie J Mr. David Urquhart, as the timorous new Elder. Mr., and .Mrs.'Moffat .will'of course play their original parts of Taminas Biggar and Eelen Dunlop. This return season will no doubt be warmly welcomed, as many will be delighted to renew acquaintance with Mr. Moffat's charming comedy, and others who ■were unable to see "Bunty" on the occasion of her former visit will doubtless seize the opportunity of so doing during the forthcoming season. • The box plans will he available at the Dresden on Monday morning next at 9 o'clook.
