MR, G. W. RUSSELL AT CHALMERS
(Br Teleffraph.-Prees Associatloa.) . Dunedln, December 1. Mr. G. W. Russell addressed a large audience at the Town Hall, Port Chalmers, this evening, and was very cordially received. He traversod the administration of the Massey Party, par-, ticularly _ on the question of finance, and received a most attentive and enthusiastic hearing. Referring to the statement that there was an alliance between the Liberal Party and the Rod Fedß he said that in his own district he was being opposed by the president •>f the Federation of Labour and that the Liberal leader, if returned to power, would absolutely refuse to carry, on the government of the country at the dictation of any set of men, but would givo effect to the policy of the Liberal Party as declared by him. On the question of defence he said the Liberal Party was led by the greatest Imper- i ialist in the Dominion, and that whatever was necessary to give full effect to the wishes of the Imperial authorities and the patriotism'of the people of New Zealand would be provided by the Liberal Party in the matter of men, food, and equipment. There would be no halting in the work of assisting the Empire and a change of Government would possibly mean even greater energy and assistance to the Mother Country than was being shown at the present timo. A unanimous voteof thanks and confidence was carried.
