OLD NAVAL DEFENCE CLUB The Old Naval Defence Rifle Club opened its second series of competitions on batimlay afternoon for trophies presented by the Hon. C. J. Johnson, Major A. G. ■Hume, Lieut. M. E. Denniston, president J. Babe, and club' trophies. Competitors nacl a. wind to contend with, varying anything from sto 18 degrees. However, the shooting was fairly good under tho circumstances. President J. Rabe topped the score off the rifle with 87, closely followed by Rflmn. "B.B." Pringle, with 86. lhe conditions were ten shots and sighter at each 300 and 500 yards. Standidge, 84; J. Wilton.' 47; total .301. Next Saturday, the competitions will l>e continued at ranges of _ 500 yards and 800 yards, ten shots and eighter at each.
SUBURBS CLUB. The Suburbs Defence Rifle Club continued their-trophy shooting on Saturday afternoon at ranges 300 and 600 yards, ten 6bots at each range. The best scores for the day was made by A. J. Jackson with 89. The conditions at GOO yards wero very troublesome to tho competitors. In B Class N. D. Francis topped tho list with 80, anil in C Class F. L. Norris was top'with 79. Next Wednesday will complete the second match in the firs't. series. The shooting for the lamb presented by Mr. G. Parkins, Cuba Street, will also be concluded on Wednesday. Next Saturday th'e club will fire their third match in the first series at ranges 300, 500, and GOO yards, seven-shot match'. Another lamb has been offered for this competition. Chirnside finished one pjjint ahead of tliat skipped by Rflmn. J. C. Low, the totals being 291 and 290 respectively. A feature of Saturday's' shoot waa the good showing made by several handicap men, . Kflmn. A. C. DEFENCE STAFF ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Defence Stnff Shooting Club was held at the Drill Hall on Friday evening, there being a very good attendance of members. Tho secretary's report, which was adopted, congratulated members on their second successful season. It was ' announced that a number of leading firms had donated tronhies for the season, while a number of new members on the staff had joined the club. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow:—Patron, His Excellency, the Earl of Liverpool; vicopatron, the Hon. Jas. Allen; president, Major-General Sir A. J. Godley; vicepresidents, Colonel 'Eobin; Colonel Koakes, Major Hughes, Major llabin, Captain Kose, Captain Richardson, Captain Powles, Captain Skelley, Captain Cardale,- Hon. P. M. B. Fisher, Major Elliott, and Dr. Mason. The committee elected were:—Captain Kenny, Captain M'Comiah, and Mr. Luckroan; vice-cap-tain, Mr. A. Lucas; hon. secretary, Mr. Aston; hon. treasurer, Mr. Crosson; and Sergt.-Major Martin, committeemen.
