THE BY-LAWS.
At the Magistrate's. Court yesterday Dr. Fa'ulkc pleaded not guilty to charges of failing to keep to the left' side of Willis' Street when driving a motor-car and failing to stop and give his name and 1 address to a police constable when called upon. Mr. J. F. W. Dickson appeared for tho defence, and Mr. J. O'Shea, City Solicitor, for the prosecution. After hearing the evi•dcnce in respect to the second chargo, the Magistrate dismissed the information on the ground that the constable had not called on defendant to stop. On' tho other charge, tho Magistrate entered v a conviction and fined defendant 55., with costs.7s Leslie M'Pike was charged with—(l) that being the driver of a motor-car ho did jjly for hire elsewhere than on some appointed stand, and (2) that being the driver of a licensed hackney carriage did prevent' the driver of a similar vehicle from obtaining a fare. Defendant, who was rei-fesented by Mr. H. F. O'Leary, pleaded not guilty. Mr. J. O'Shea prosecuted. 4,fter hearing the evidence, the Magistrate dismissed both informations. Fines of 55., with court costs, 75., were imposed on the following for the hv-law broaches mentioned:—Harold Andrews a_ud Edward Bradshaw, for driving vehicles without sufficient lights; Hmiry James, leavuig a motor bicyclo in Abel 'Smitlr Street at night without a light;' Michael Kearney, driving a motor-car at night without a tail light; Wm. Smith, allowing stock" to wander. Fines'of- 10s., with court costs, 7s:, were imposed on Leslie M'Piko for driving a motorcar at night ftithout a tail light; and.Bert Pettman, for leaving a. motor-car unattended. A similar nenalty was imposed on tile latter for leaving a motor-car without a light at night. • Bruce Douglas Cameron was fined 55., with costs 195.. for riding a motor bicycle across a'level crossing when an engine was 'approaching within half a mile of the.mwmg.
