CONTROL OF TRAMS AND LIGHTING
GENERAL REARRANGEMENT. The death of Mr. Stuart Richardson, late Tramway. Engineer and City Electrical Engineer, has resulted in.a re-arrangement of the duties .of the leading officers in both tho City Tramway and Lighting Departments. At last night's meeting of the City Council • the Tramways Committee brought down a report dealing with the matter, and, after an hour's discussion in committee, the report was adopted. The committee recommended to tho council that Mr. W. H. Morton, City Engineor and chairman of the Tramway Board of 'Management, should be appointed general manager of the city tramway and electrical undertakings, and that other appointments bo mado as follow:—Mr. M. Cable. Assistant Tramway Manager and Electrical Engineer; Mr. George Laufihlan, Assistant Manager and. Lighting Engineer' in the Electric Light Department; and Mr. Duncan M'Gillivra'v, Tramway Traffic Manager. Mr. Lauchlan's salary has been increased to £550 per annum, and Mr. M'Gillivray's salary, to £350 per annum. The Tramway Board of Management is to be dissolved on December 31, and the new appointments will take effect from January 1, 1915. .As. the new order of v things will place additional responsibilties on the City Engineer, the council decided ''that he bo instructed to rearrange the work in his own department by creating two subdiviions: —(a) Water supply and severage, and (b) street works and general, | and with the officers in charge of those departments draw up a report on the management thereof with the object of relieving himself as much as .possible, and 'that his poposals be submitted to the next meeting of the Finance Committee."
v - ; ' Mr. M. Cable, who succeeds to the position of Electrical Engineer held by the late Mr.' Richardson, has been in the service of tlie City Council since the now tramway service was installed. Ho has'lately occupied the position of Assistant Tramway Engineer and Traffic Superintendent. Mr. Geo- Lauchlan was formerly in the service of the New Zealand Electrical Syndicato, ( tbo first electrical company ■ operating Sin ' "Wellington. When the company's works were-taken over by tbe'icity, he continued in the ser•vice, ad has been conducting the business affairs of the Electrio Lighting Department in the position -of Lighting Superintendent. • "■ • Mr. Duncan M'Gillivray, who becomes Traffic Manager, is a well-known inspector on the trams, and has long been regarded as an efficient officer.
