GELIGNITE EXPLOSION
MIRACULOUS ESCAPE.. ■ ' :: " Inveroargill, November 25. : Mr. R. A: Mullen, farinef; of.'Underwood, stowed fifteen pounds of gelignite in a shed adjacent to his -homestead. His wife went to get some wheat fromthe shed for the fowls, and- while distributiiiE it a- terrific explosion occurred. The shed was completely'shattered, only a Jittlo of it voinairiing; manv of the fowls wore_ killed, • and pieces of timber were picked.up soveral chains away. Every window in tho dwelling was broken, and olio end of tho house blown in. Mr, Million, who was in one of- tho rooms was thrown lloorward, and other members received severe shakings. By some miraculous mentis, Mrs. Mullen; who was within a few feet of tho scone of the explosion, escaped, excepting for a low minor bruises caused by her being thrown earth wards.. Tho cause of the explosion is a complete mystery.
