EDUCATION BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. Tho monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Board was held yesterday. Mr. O. M. Luke was elected chairman, in tho absence of tho Hon. J. G. W. Aitken'. Other membors present were: Messrs. H. Freeman, and T. Moss. A letter was received from the Department stating that a grant for £1300 nad been made for the erection of additions to the infant department at Brooklyn School. Tho secretary stated that the Increase in attendance was very great in the locality. It was decided that tho secretary should make - temporary arrangements for extra accommodation. Tlie secretary also reported having received telegraphic information of a grant of £1500 for a brick addition to tno Northland School, and £1000, for the establishment of the first portion of the new school at Wadestown. The secretary was given power to deal, with the Koro-Koro South Sohool buildings, which are to be closed, as the school is not now required as an aided school. - Inspectors' reports on the riki and Pongaroa Schools wore considered. It was decided to grant an assistant teacher to Paekakariki, and to apj)ly for a'grant for better accommodation at Pongaroa. It was pointed out that the present building had been in use since 1897, and was quito unsuitable now. > . The inspector's report on the circular regarding farm physiology waß read to the effect that the proposals were generally good, and there was no reason why rural course soliolars should not attend any demonstrations instituted under the direction of the Board of Agriculture. Resignations were accepted as under: Mr. G. P. Cook, sole teacher, Waione, January 81; Mr. H. Henderson, assistant, Hutt; November 30; Mrs. O. Keir, sole teacher, Stokes Valley, January 31; Miss M. E. Stevens, assistant, Tawa Flat,. January 31; Miss 0. F. M'Donald, typiste, end of the year. Leave of absence was granted to Mies Stanton, assistant, Featherston, extended leave to end of'year; Miss Evans, assistant, Clyde Quay, six weeks from October 20; Mr.'Wallas,' sole tcaoher, Ngaturi, about two weeks; Miss E. M. Bell, pupil teacher, Brooklyn, November 10 to end of year; Mr.; assistant, Mount Cook Boys', several weeks; Miss E. M. Duff, student, T.C., November 1 to end of year; Mr. Bethune, H.T., Johnsonville, about a week for military duty; Mr. Stainton, assistant, Mount Cook - Boys'; Expeditionary Force; Miss Hutchens, Nireaha, conditions of leave.
