Since July less than four inches of rain/ has fallen in Auckland, aa compared with fourteen inches, the average fall for 'August, September, October, and November, the result is that the dairy industry, which three months ago appeared to be embarking on the most prosperous season, on record, is now gradually slackening, and the position daily., growing, more . serious; There is no.growth left in the.pastures, and the. dairy herds are gradually , becoming less profitable. ...-. . . , . .Many/growers' report ..that .their, potato crops liave been.ruined'byHlie prevailing; : dryness, , and - the Waitemata strawberry; growers state ■ ijhat', -.the drought has done such damage already in .'their'; gardens .that, they, will have for market; this. year, less than half the six hundred thousand boxes of strawberries produced last year.
