Robin) left for Dunedin'by the Wn/hine last, evening. Colonel Robin will inspect the forts at Dunedin and Otago Heads on ■Wednesday and Thursday, will leave for Christchnrch on Saturday and bo back in Wellington on Tuesday morning. The Rev. E. Hobday, formerly of Dunedin, has been appointed temporary pastor of the Vivian Street Baptist Church. Mr. Hobday will officiate in Wellington up till March next. ■Word has been received that Mr. W. Hulbert, son of Mr. C. P. Hulbert, fourth engineer of the New Zealand Shipping Company's s.s. Waimate, was in gaining his chief engineer's certificate while in London, and has_ now joined the New Zealand Expeditionary Force formed there. Mr. 6. H. Hickman has been appointed chairman! secretary, and treasurer of.the Newman Domain Board. The Rev. Dawson Thomas, vicar of tho Holy Trinity Church, at Gisborne, has accepted an appointment to a rectorship at Duddo, New' South Wales (states a Press Association message). Mr. Wm. Foster, headmaster of the Petone _High School, who has been seriously ill, has suffered a relapse, and is again the inmate of a private hospital.. Mr. W. Sandtmann- and Miss Freda bandtmann, of Napier, are expected to return to New Zealand in a fortnight's time from Great Britain..
_ Mr. A. .Marryatt, who has been president of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association for some seasons past, did not ?eek reelection this j'ear on account of pressure of other business. Regret was expressed by members that he would in future bo unable to - take such an actiye interest in the affairs of the association as he had done in the past. In moving a vote of thanks to . the Retiring officers, Mr. C. E.' Bridge mentioned ;the debt of gratitude the council was under to the returning president, who was constantly at work and thinking out plans for the betterment of the sport. During. the past he had done splendid work in promoting tho military championships, id. making inquiries as to the advisability of establishing inter-collegiate' championships, in helping along the American tour, and in various other directions. Mr. Marryatt, in the course of a. brief reply, paid a tribute to the united spirit of the oouncil.
Mr. J. H. Pollock, who has been in ill-health'for some time past, is now on the high road to recovery, and mention of this was made in the annual re-' port of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, presented to members of the counoil last night. At a later stage of. the meeting Mr. Pollock was elected president of the council, and in the course of some remarks made on. the motion for his election,. Mr. A. 'Marryatt paid a tribute to the hard work; done by Mr. Pollock in the interests of the sport during the last .20 years, both, as membor lor fhe council and in connection with the Olympic Games. No one had made more sacrifices for the sport than .the new president, and it had been 6*aid that it was due to his efforts that the 'game of' amateur athletic had been revived here, and was being continued on such a high level.
