COMMONWEALTH WHEAT CROP
APPEAL' TO FARMERS.
Melbourne, November 23. Sir A. Peacock, Premier of Victoria, strongly appealed to. farmers to put the greatest possible area under wheat. . The Hon. W. A. Holman, Premier of New South Wales, will confer to-day with the Commonwealth and State authorities, with a view to collective action in the distribution of the available Commonwealth wheat crop, and in the importation of any wheat required.
. FIRES .IN MELBOURNE.
BIG TOAL OF DAMAGE., x . Melbourne, November 33. Two more fires have occurred, at Stone's boot factory and Price, Griffiths, merchants. The total damage at tjieso and Schwartz's fires is estimated at over £80,000.
SUGAR BUYERS IN QUEENSLAND.
Brisbane, November 23. Tile annual report of the Sugar Bureau showed that a large number of Austrian, Russian, Spanish, Greek, and Italian buyers, particularly the last'' named, had been purchasing sugar on the farms.
SHIPMASTERS FINED FOR CHINESE DESERTIONS.

STORM ON LAKE SUPERIOR.
