PROFESSIONAL ORCHESTRA
The Wellington Professional Orchestra gave what must be considered one of the most thoroughly enjoyable concerts of the season ,at His ■ Majesty's Tlieatre last evening. It is very seldom that one is privileged to hear Schubert's "Unfinished" Symphony in Wellington, but rarer still_ to have heard it played' with, such delicacy and finish as last evening.' Tho fine, body of strings wore in perfect unanimity and bowed as one man, whilst the passages for the French horns (in. this case muted cornets) and the clarinet were beautifully 'played. The Symphony is glorious music—a shimmering stream or deliciously sweet melody, and the orchestra and its conductor (Mr. Herbert Bloy) are to bo commended for tho fine performance of last evening. Tho programme also included the "Marche Hongroise" from Berlioz's "Damnation of Faust;" a 'very vividlycoloured and inspirating march; "The Triumphal Entry of the Boyards" (Halvorsen), a march bizarre and original in melody and orchestration, with uncommonly fine work for the! brass section, tho idyll "Dawn" (Matt), Boccherini's delightful _ old minuet (for strings), played with gossamer lightness and delicacy; !and the melodious overture to Auber's opera- "Massaliiello."
