The Hon. James Allen, Minister of Finance and Defence, who has just completed a fortnight's tour of his electorate (Bruce), returned to Wellington yesterday morning. Mr. Allen will be engaged on Departmental business' today, and leaves'- again for the south by this evening's ferry steamer., - He will address a public meeting at Waikou; aiti| in'theOamaru electorate) on Tuesday night. • The' Wellington .Veterans' 'Associa-. tion was represented at yesterday's memorial service to Field-Marshall Earl Huberts at, the Town Hall by the following members:—Messrs. T. Humphries, F. W. ' At .the' Presbyterian Assembly on Saturday the Rev. Gray Dixon (Roslyn); and the Rev. W. Scorgie (Mornington) were nominated for the Moderatorship for next year, and on a vote being taken Mr. Scorgie was elected.—Press Association. . ' :
The death.is recorded of one of Marlborough's'early settlera in the person of Mrs. Leahy, relict of the late Mr. Leahy, Wakamarina. The; deceased lady died suddenly at her late residence, Douglas, Street', on Saturday morning .from a heart seizure. She is survived. a grown-up'family of two daughters and four sons, to whom much sympathy is extended.
