JOTTINGS FROM PROVINCIAL CENTRES. (From Our Speelal Oorrespondents.) PAHIATUA. The official recount in connection with tie Akitio County Council elections shows that Mr. M.' Fe'rrick, one of the retiring members for the Waifcfßiding, lias been re-elected. The count on election day gave Mr. G. H. Gillani a majority of one ovea- Mr. Ferrick. The official figures are as follow:—A. K. Grubner, 60: Mr. Ferrick, 52; G. . H. Gillam, 48; H. T. Ellingham, 29. The personnel of the new council is as follows:—Messrs. P. V. Smith, R,. B. Robertson, W. A. Burling, M. Ferrick, A. K. Grubuer, G. Liverton, C. La6seri. Tiie four first-named were members of the retiring council. ' ' The I'ahiatua Fire Brigade, at its ■monthly meeting tin's w«ek, decidbd •to hold the annual shield competitions on January '22, 3916, in lieu of June 3. Mr. O. li. Burling is gazetted a member of the Pongaroa Domain Board. A heavy gale was experienced in tlie Pahiatua district yesterday morning. Fruit and vegetable gardens suffered from the boisterous weather, but no dajnage of a serious nature has been reDortod. Nino entries have heen received for tho dairy oow milking competition arranged by the Pahiatua A-. and P. Association. At a meeting of the committee of the association held on Tuesday it was decided to eliminate the pig classes from the schedule. The president,- Mr. C. Avery, promised to give a prize of £2 2s. to the member who secured the most new members from the dato of the meeting until January '21, 1916. Three new members were elected. MASTERTON. The MasWton corps of the Salvation Army raised a sum of £214 in its selfdenial effort this year. This is an increase of £11 on the amount collected last year.' Mr. Sponoe C. Coinpton, 'who has been organist at St. Matthew'e' Church for some time past, has tendered his resignation, and is leaving the district at tho end of the year. About twenty-eight boxes of. butter aro being ■ monufactured daily at the Masterton dairy factory. This Jβ slightly fewer than the quantity that was being manufactured at tho same time last year. Mr. and Mrs W. B. Ohennells, who have been on an extended visit to the Old Country, returned to Masterton on Wednesday. Their son Eric, who went Home with them, has joined a New Zealand coiitingont formed in. London for service abroad. The Dagg Shield of the Masterton Chess Club has beeu won by Mr. G. A. Jones. ■ . Tho Masterton Homing Pigeon Club flew a race from Dunedin this week. It proved a disastrous "smash" for local lofts, only a comparatively few birds leaving reached home. ' The first bird to arrive (Drake Bros. , "Little Mary") occupied 34hr. 3dmin. on tho journey. CARTERTON, The donations for the patriotic sports and gift auction, to be held hero on Ihursday '.veex, are coming in very freely, and the financial result should ibe very satisfactory. \Mr. E. Eagle, junr., of Belvedere, has been appointed judge of Jersey cattle at the Auckland Show.
. Mr. Allan Gordon, who some weeks apco was seriously injured in a railway accident in tho north of Auckland, is still ,in a serious condition. His mother and a brother left Carterton on Tuesday to see him.
The Cartortou Amateur Swimming Club will shortly open, the season.
