RIFLE SHOOTING.
THE OLD NAVALS' CLUB. The Old Naval Rifle Club concluded its first series of trophy shooting on Saturday afternoon for trophies presented by Major A. S. Biss, Major Davy, Colonel Coopor, and club trophies. The weather was very boisterous, a hard northerly wind, at times almost a gale, making shooting vory difficult. Rifleman T. Dell had the honour of making tho highest score of tho day, 71, off the rifle. The conditions were six shots and sighter at each 300, 500, and 600 yards. A pleasing feature of the series just completed is that two competitors not previously gaining a place in the trophy list have succeeded in obtaining first and second places.
KARORI RIFLE CLUB. At Trentham on Saturday the Karori Club had a record luuster, 54 memfters being on the range, ihe lirst shoot of a handicap competition was-tired, conlined to members who. have joined the club since August 5, first prize being an aperaturo sight donated by Riinm. A. C. Atkinson; second, a club trophy, valued at 205.; third and fourth, two trophies given by Pres. H. Marshall aud Dep. Pres. W. Judd, respectively, lltlmii. M. K. Litchfield, H. H. Dawson, J. F. Burton, and 1 J. W. Dayman are at present leading, iu the order named. - - . • ■

Pres. H. Marshall, Rflmn. A. C. Atkinson, J. Cox, W. A. Farquhar, and A'. C. Maisey were assisting the Territorials in their musketry practice, SUBURBS CLUB. The Suburbs Defence Rifle Club held a competition for trophies presented by the club on Saturday afternoon at thoir rauge, "Broadway," Miramar. The club was divided in two classes, two trophies going to eaoh class, A Class, F. M'Donald Erst, with F. Stacey seoond. In B Class, every member shooting off scratch, resulted in F. Cooper being first, with G. Emms second. Mr. Emms, who is the veteran shot of the club, and is now in his 73rd year, is to be congratulated on his win, being only one point behind F. Cooper, for first place. The weather on Saturday was one of the worst days the Suburbs have experienced. On Wednesday next the club will tire a. sweepstake competition. On Saturday next championship matches commence. All new members are requested to put in appearance next Saturday on the range. Tho club this season will bo divided into three classcs. There was a large attendance, and some fair scores were made, considering tho weather. Tlie conditions were 10 shots at 300 and 500 yards. A match with the New Zealand Defence Staff Rifle Club was fired at Trentham over 500 and 600 yards, service targets, at each range. The conditions at 500 yards were fairly good. Tho shooting between the clubs was even, tho Highlanders having a lead of two points, the total score being' 419. Coming back to the 600 yards the' wind had increased in force, an occasional drizzle making shooting unpleasant and dilficult. The Higlilanoers' score at this range was 388, they finally winning by 17 points. The condition? of the match were 12 to shoot, tho 10 best to count. Captain Mellor and Deputy-President Shannon put on' a creditable score* of 80 out' of a possible 100. Below are tiie detailed scores: — 300 600
