LOCAL TOURNAMENTS. Play in the annual handicap tournament of the Working Men's Club was concluded last week, the final scores of the eight prize-winners: being as follow:— ■ Class. Wins. Losses. W. Featonby IV 11J ' J. E. Perry ■ 111 11 3 .1. Reid V 10 . 4 J. Key VII 10 4 J. Burgess I 9 5 A. Jensen ......... IV 9 5 G. H. Gray ...... II 7 7 11. Mowtell ...... V .77 The third and fourth prizes are divided by' Messrs. Reid and Key, the fifth and' sixth prizes by Messrs. Burgess and Jensen, and tho . seventh and special prizes by Messrs. Gray and Mowtell. The prizes are to be presented when the current draughts tourney is completed. At ,this. function consideration will bo given to si lottor received from the New Zealand. Chess Association, stating that entries for the next New. Zealand championship congress close on the 12th proximo,' and asking for an expression of opinion as to whether or not a record of tho games played at this congress should bo published in book form.

The adjourned game between the two ■unbeaten players in. the AVellington South Club's finals, Messrs. Pcrrott and Loney,: has been abandoned, a draw being agreed to. without further play. J'errott has thus completed his fixtures with the fine score of 4 wins and I draw. To equal this Loney, who lias 3 wins and a draw, will require to score his unfinished gamo withWeine— a stubbornly-contested game, in which a third sitting is required, each player having now a rook and four pawns. There is evidently going to bo a close finish for the three prizes offered.
